The Carvings

ost of the famous carvings are
in the diggeya or the hevisi mandapaya. In the front there are two rows of
wooden supporters each row with four supporters. After these there are two
columns in both left and right. Each column contains 6 supporters, bringing
to a total of 24. All together there are 32. Lets consider the carvings in
the right side supporters. There are 6 pairs of carved supporters in the
right side. Each supporter was carved beautifully with a 9 by 9-inch square
shaped carving in each of 4 sides.

First pair
As explained above in each tower there are 4 square shaped carvings. In one side of a tower there is a carving of a flower design. In the other side there is a carving of two birds together known as "gurula". Next is another design followed by a another flower design. That completes the 4 carvings in each side of the first tower. Similar carvings are to be seen in the other tower of this pear.

2nd pair
In the first tower there are flower carvings. In the second tower there is a fighter with a knife like weapon in his hand. His lower body is a bird's body. A female dancer is carved in another side.
Third pair
In the first tower there are carvings that show a rope tie, and flowers. In the second tower there are carvings of flowers.

Fourth pair
First tower holds carvings of flowers and two swans together. The second one is carved with flowers in each side.
Fifth pair
In the first tower bird with a human head. Followed by a rope tie, a bird called "gurula", and a god.

Sixth pair
In the both towers there are flower carvings. above this tower, in a side there is a magnificent carving of a dancing act by two men, with sticks in their hands. This dance is called "lee keliya".

sideSeventh pair
The towers in front of the lion carvings are considered as the seventh pair. In the first tower we can see carvings such as flower plant, flower, flower?????. In the second one it's a actor with a naked upper body.

Eighth pair
In these we can see flower carvings.
Ninth pair
In the Second tower we can witness a vulture, and two swans. As usual others are
carvings of different flowers.

Tenth pair
In the second tower we can see a carving of a legendary creature known as the ???????.
Eleventh pair
There are carvings of flowers in the first one. In the second tower we can see some interesting carvings. A horse rider was carved in one side. Next is a fight between a lion and an elephant. Followed by a wrestling fight one of them has a shield in his left hand. He is armed with a sward in his right hand.
Twelfth pair
These towers were also carved with some common features as in the previous
towers.

Two columns in the front
- First tower- Carvings of flowers and a caving of a peacock.
- Second tower- A woman with a naked upper body. She has something in her right hand. Next is a swan followed by two swans together and a carving that represents a fight between a horse and an elephant.
- Third tower- a flower design, a mermaid, a female dancer, and a wrestling fight, are the carvings in this tower.
- Fourth tower- flowers in each of the four sides.
- Fifth tower- flower designs in each side.
- Sixth tower- Above-mentioned carvings.
- Seventh tower- swans surrounded by flowers, and a bird. were carved in two sides.
- Eighth tower- four carvings of flowers in each side.
