CHIDREN`S CORNER OF KOTHMALE COMMMUNITY RADIO
I
am the first announcer of the children's corner of kothmale community
radio. I hope you would be pleased to her about it may I introduce my
self first. I am Dilhara Madubasini of Nayapana vidyalaya. I am in 7th
grade in my school. We children of the village used to go to kothmale
radio station often one such occasion we had courage enough to ask the
controller of the Radio station whether we would be allowed to participate
to any program of the Broad casting He told us 'I am searching for kids
to whom we can hand over our responsibilities
To the coming generations I shall give you a chance, to open a children's
corner here". That is how we started this program.
It was the first of January 2001,the red-letter day of our program. It
is still ringing in my ears. We started children's corner of kothmale
community radio of that day. You all know that we are only lay
men to the art of announcing and programming. We began our work some where
on 28th December 2000.
Perhaps you may like to hear about our members. The membership of corner
is opened to the all children whose to 16th birthday. For the start there
came about 30 members both and brothers to participate to the program.
At present we have more than two hounded members, representing every nook
and corner of the kothmale.
Our program has two services, one in the morning and the other in the
evening. Morning series starts at 6.30 a.m and continues for 15 minutes.
The duration of the evening series goes from 5.15 pm to 5.30 pm in weekdays.
We tender every item that is under the sun, which are liked by kids of
our age groups. But most items come within the circle of fine arts. Each
day's work is allotted to the particular group is for the week's work
this arrangement gives chance's to every brother and sister to show their
abilities and capabilities.
Our work is not confined to the fine arts only it goes beyond that. It
goes beyond that. It is a motto of our controller that we should live
and let others to live too. To go with it, we have started a social service
in our station. Do you like to know what is it? It is a bank. You may
think we are dealing with
money in that bank. Or no..no..no. it is a bank of material. The materials
those wanted by children. Every member can deposit in our bankbooks, stationeries,
toys, playing goods, clothes and ECT. When the store of the bank filled
with goods we donate them to the needy members of our society. So we had
one venture at Doragala school. We emptied our store for the needy of
that school with the kind help ofthe principal there. After seeing the
pleasant faces of the downers we are encouraged to deposit more and more
material on our bank. The second stock was offered to the children of
Dhabana School. Dhambana is a village of
vaddha's tribe one of the indigenous race of Sri Lanka. I can still see
the beauty of their faces, which depicts the contents of their hearts.
It is not only a donation but also and educational tour to the Dhambana.
The tour was organized by our society pioneered by our children corner.
I think you have heard about our corner. We open our own to our friends
who are thinking our country and beyond our seas and cordially invite
to join us to make a global corner of children.
Good-bye to all.
