Buddika sampath

Buddhika is a smart and talented young boy who lives in kothmale.He is a volunteer at the kothmale community radio station and he designs web pages for the community radio web site www.kothmale .net. Also he does a radio program at the radio station.

18 months ago he was just an ordinary schoolboy. But the kothmale Internet project changed his life in to a new direction.

Buddhika was born in Maskeliya on13th of February 1982. He got his primary education at the Nayapana College & Gangasiripura College and now he is in the final grade at the Wickramabahu national college Gampola. After passing the G.C.E O/L exam he got the opportunity study at the Wickramabahu N. College. He sat for the the final exam, the G.C.E A/L exam this year.

Buddhika lives in the mahaweli camp, near the radio station. His father works at the Mahaweli authority as a driver. 2 years ago the Kothmale Internet project was started. As a young boy he was curious about this new event. As everybody else he went to see the radio station. For the first time in his life he was able to use a computer. At that time he did not know any thing about computers or the Internet. Soon his curiosity led him to learn computing and Internet.

At this time, the educational projects were introduced for the new A/L syllabus. Every A\L student should do a educational project on some topic that they like. This was a good opportunity for Buddhika to do something new. He decided to do a project on the Kothmale mahaweli dam ( the near by dam). As he was carrying on the project, kothmale radio decided to make their own web team. Buddhika was one of the first members of the team. So he learned about the Internet and web designing. As a result he was able to put his school project on the Internet. He designed a web page about the mahaweli dam, both in sinhala and English. Buddika published his website last year. As a regular user of the Internet, now he has a good knowledge of this field. To shear his knowledge with the local community, he volunteered to do a radio program based on the Internet. buddhika and his friend do this radio program every Monday, which gives the listeners a good knowledge of the Internet. They celebrated their 50th program last month. At the same time he taught himself how to handle radio equipment and now he does sound controlling as well as announcing.
